Sage Scholz is a Buffalo based photo artist. Their focus is in portraiture, centering on queer and underground spaces. In these intimate places they work with their friends to capture personal moments.

Sage also works in self portraiture, using their body to bring to life themes of gender. A blend of performance and photography, they emphasize the human form in both natural and interior spaces. These works represent the distinction between gender as an identity and as a production. They revolve around being raised in traditional gender roles, and their development to both separate from femininity and accept certain aspects of it within their transgender identity. Abstracting their body, they hope to create compositions that evoke these themes.

They photograph primarily on black and white, 35 mm and 4x5 film. Sage draws from the work of Francesca Woodman, Ana Mendieta, and Nan Goldin.
